The Juvenile Has Found Some Wings

May 22, 2014

SVM_5336

This morning is the first time I have seen the juvenile eagle actually use his wings to lift himself / herself up off the nest. We saw it’s feet for the first time too. We are getting close to fledging our next eagle addition to Lake Waco. How nice is that. The young eagle has to be old enough that even if we lost the tree now he would make it. Let’s at least hope so. Another 2-3 week and it will be airborne and another successful year will be behind us.

As they progressed thru the catfish meal the pieces seem to get larger and larger. It appeared that he was going to be able to cope with what he was served.

A couple of days later mom brought another catfish in and this time dad served Junior the fish a piece at a time. This was a mouthful to say the least.  The juvenile worked hard to down this one.

Fresh Catfish Already Divided Equally

Mom is bringing in a catfish that she has already sampled. It was almost in two parts but I’m sure the juvenile didn’t care one bit. We do all have to eat now don’t we.

Lake Waco Juvenile At About 7 Weeks Old

May 12, 2014

SVM_2888

We got another good look at the newest eagle on Lake Waco yesterday and it is looking very healthy and growing quickly. If that old tree and nest can last about 5 more weeks we will have successfully gotten another eagle for our area. The storms have tested the tree and it has done well, but it’s time is limited and we just need a little longer.
