The Lake Waco eagles now have a new chick of about 4 weeks old and it has been visible for the past week now. Here is a glimpse of it as one of the parents takes off for a wing stretching break, and quickly back to the nest. Right below the parent and on the right side of the tree stob you will see the little fella’s head sticking up around the nesting sticks. We are now past the critical stages of the hatching and now entering the rougher weather times. We hope the old tree and the nest will survive the weather in the coming months.

As I was walking around the lake this weekend I found this juvenile Eastern Screech Owl peering out of his nesting hole in a Mesquite tree most likely looking for his mom. He appeared to be anxiously waiting for his next meal. Even though it was still late afternoon and he should have been sleeping, he was probably getting hungry.

As I looked around the area, I found mom just yards away sleeping in the next Cedar tree. She was certainly close by and had a sharp eye on the nesting hole.
